Pre-Owned Luxury Condition Guide Australia
Our condition guide explains how we describe pre-owned designer bags, watches, jewellery, accessories, shoes, ready to wear and travel pieces. It helps Australian buyers compare wear, inclusions and disclosed alterations before purchasing.
The Complete Scale
Luxury Reborn uses its own scale of six grades. Condition terms can vary between resale businesses, so use these definitions when comparing items on this website. The grade is a concise summary, not a substitute for the product-specific description and photographs.
Never used and in original, unopened packaging, with no visible signs of use, storage or handling. Inclusions and any brand warranty are stated separately; this grade does not imply an active brand warranty.
Never carried, worn or used. Original packaging may have been opened or may be missing. Any visible changes from age, storage or handling, such as creasing, shape loss or tarnishing, are disclosed. All inclusions are listed separately.
Minimal signs of handling or wear, generally visible only on close inspection.
Light visible wear consistent with careful use. The item remains well maintained overall.
Noticeable wear consistent with regular use. Important marks, rubbing or flaws are disclosed.
Significant visible wear, ageing or flaws. The item remains functional, and every material limitation is stated in the listing.
Read the Whole Listing
The current wear and overall state of the item after our inspection.
Notable scratches, marks, odour, repairs or functional limitations identified.
Images of the item being sold, including important details where practical.
Box, dust bag, receipt, cards, links, straps or service records listed separately.
Condition and authenticity are not the same. A worn or vintage item may still be authentic. Tell Luxury Reborn about every known repair, alteration, repainting, recolouring or replacement part in the quote form before sending the item. We assess this work case by case and may decline the item before it is sent. Read about our separate authenticity assessment and guarantee.
Category-Specific Checks
A designer bag requires different condition checks from a luxury watch, jewellery, ready to wear, footwear or travel piece.
Corners, handles, glazing, leather or canvas, colour transfer, odour, interior, hardware, structure and indicators of repair or alteration.
Case, dial, bezel, crystal, case back, bracelet or strap, clasp, stretch, missing links, stated function, available service history, polishing and replacement parts. Accuracy or water resistance is stated only when it has actually been tested, with available test details.
Scratches, tarnish, stone settings, clasps, chains, hallmarks, resizing, engraving and known repairs.
Edges, glazing, zips, snaps, interiors, hardware, textile pulls, shape and functional wear.
Fabric, lining, seams, hems, alterations, marks, pulls, pilling, holes, colour change, odour and the sewn brand, composition and care labels that remain on the item.
Uppers, soles, heels, insoles, fastenings, hardware, stretching, odour and any disclosed resoling or repair.
Exterior, corners, wheels, handles, zips, locks, keys, lining, structure and the stated function of moving parts.
Identifying details and inclusions are different. Sewn brand, composition and care labels, serial stickers and date codes are inspected as identifying details on the item. Detachable retail tags, boxes, dust bags and receipts are listed separately as inclusions. A missing identifying detail may affect authentication or whether Luxury Reborn can accept the item.
Photographs & Disclosures
We show the exact item and aim to describe notable flaws where practical. Pre-owned items can also show fine surface wear consistent with the published condition grade, and not every microscopic trace is itemised separately. A grade is never used to conceal a material issue. Lighting, screens and material reflectivity can cause small colour differences, so contact us if a shade or detail is important to your decision.
How differences are assessed: nature, size, location, visibility, effect on use or value, the item's age and price, the published grade, written disclosures and exact-item photographs are considered together. A reported difference is assessed with the complete item, listing and available evidence. This guide does not predetermine its legal classification or remedy. If a consumer guarantee issue is established, the remedy required by law applies.
Odour: scent perception can vary between people and environments. We assess for noticeable smoke, musty or mould-related, fragrance, storage, leather and other material odours and disclose those identified. A buyer-reported scent is reviewed case by case and is neither automatically rejected nor automatically classified as not as described.

Vintage, Repairs & Inclusions
Luxury Reborn generally classifies an item as Vintage when available evidence indicates it was produced in a calendar year at least 20 years before the current calendar year. Vintage describes age, not condition. A vintage Chanel, Hermès or Louis Vuitton bag can present exceptionally well, while a newer piece can show significant wear. We grade the current item separately from authenticity and assess any disclosed repair history against our acceptance policy.
Buying With Clarity
Condition varies by item and is stated on the product listing. Luxury Reborn uses its own scale of six grades: New, Unused, Excellent, Very Good, Good and Fair. The item-specific description and photographs explain the relevant details.
New means never used, in original unopened packaging and without visible signs of use, storage or handling. It does not imply an active brand warranty. Unused means never carried, worn or used; original packaging may have been opened or may be missing. Any visible age, storage or handling changes are disclosed. Inclusions and any warranty are stated separately. Excellent has minimal signs visible on close inspection; Very Good has light wear; Good has noticeable wear from regular use; Fair has significant visible wear, ageing or flaws but remains functional, with every material limitation stated in the listing.
No. Authenticity and condition are separate assessments, and an item that looks new is not automatically authentic. Tell Luxury Reborn about every known repair, alteration, repainting, recolouring or replacement part in the quote form before sending the item. We assess this work case by case and may decline the item before it is sent. If invited, final acceptance remains subject to physical inspection.
No. Luxury Reborn generally uses Vintage for an item produced in a calendar year at least 20 years before the current calendar year. Vintage describes age, not condition. Vintage pieces are graded on their present state with reasonable context for their age, construction and materials.
New requires original, unopened packaging. If packaging has been opened or is missing, an item that has never been used is graded Unused. For the other grades, boxes, receipts and extras are recorded separately from physical condition. Missing or damaged inclusions may affect completeness, buyer confidence, marketability and value. Material damage to an inclusion is disclosed in the listing. A receipt is not required for authentication.
Repairs, alterations, repainting, other colour restoration and replacement parts must be disclosed in the quote form before an item is sent to us. Brand authorised repairs and minor third party work, including small areas of repainting, may be considered case by case following review. We may decline an item based on the submitted details or photographs before it is sent to us. We generally cannot accept extensive repainting, structural alterations, concealed damage or non-brand replacement parts that change component originality, fall outside an authentication service’s requirements or prevent a specialist from reaching a reliable conclusion. If an item is invited for physical assessment, final acceptance and value remain subject to inspection, authentication and confirmation that it matches the submission. The Seller Terms explain what happens if the received item differs from the submission.
Yes, in most cases. Luxury Reborn normally values a repaired, repainted, recoloured or materially restored bag below an otherwise comparable bag that retains its original materials and finish. The effect varies according to what was done, how extensive the work was, who completed it, the quality of the work, available records, current condition, buyer demand and whether an authentication service can reach a reliable conclusion. Careful treatment may improve a damaged bag’s condition or presentation, but it does not erase the repair history. Extensive work or replacement components can also make a bag unacceptable to Luxury Reborn. If no repair, repainting, recolouring or material restoration occurred, restoration has no effect on the quote, although the exact model, condition, demand and other market factors still do. No fixed adjustment applies. Request an assessment before changing the bag where practical.
We consider corners, handles, glazing, leather or canvas, colour transfer, odour, interior, hardware, structure and indicators of repair or alteration.
We consider the case, dial, bezel, crystal, case back, bracelet or strap, clasp, stretch, missing links, stated function, available service history, polishing and replacement parts. Accuracy or water resistance is stated only when it has actually been tested, with available test details.
We consider fabric, lining, seams, hems, alterations, marks, pulls, pilling, holes, colour change, odour and the sewn brand, composition and care labels that remain on the item.
We consider uppers, soles, heels, insoles, fastenings, hardware, stretching, odour and any disclosed resoling or repair.
We consider the exterior, corners, wheels, handles, zips, locks, keys, lining, structure and the stated function of moving parts.
We consider scratches, tarnish, stone settings, clasps, chains, hallmarks, resizing, engraving and known repairs, while normal fine surface wear is assessed in context.
We aim to describe and photograph notable wear or flaws where practical. Review the full product description and images, and contact us before purchase if you need a closer photograph or measurement.
Not necessarily. Pre-owned items can show fine surface wear consistent with the published condition grade. We do not use a grade to conceal a material issue, and assess the significance of a reported difference by its nature, size, location, visibility, effect on use or value, written disclosures and exact-item photographs.
We assess for noticeable smoke, musty or mould-related, fragrance, storage, leather and other material odours and disclose those identified. Scent perception can vary between people and environments, so a reported scent is reviewed case by case against the listing, dispatch record and returned item.
