Hermès Models

Hermès bag families and the details that distinguish them

Hermès value comparisons depend on the exact silhouette, size, construction, leather, colour and date context. Model-specific fittings and inclusions should also be recorded accurately.

Birkin

Confirm the exact size, leather, hardware finish and year context. Shape, handle condition, corners, sangles, turn-lock, base and model-appropriate lock set can materially affect presentation and demand.

Kelly

Kelly sizes and Sellier or Retourne construction attract different buyers. Inspect the top handle, sangles, turn-lock, corners, edges, structure and removable shoulder strap where supplied.

Constance

The Constance is a structured shoulder bag with a prominent H clasp. Size, leather, strap, flap, interior and scratching or wear to the closure influence both usability and buyer confidence.

Picotin Lock

The Picotin Lock is an open-top bucket bag offered in several sizes and leathers. Handle wear, base shape, corners, interior and its model-specific padlock set should be described accurately.

Evelyne

Evelyne generations and sizes differ in pocket, strap and closure details. Record the exact version, leather, perforated H panel, press stud, corners, interior and removable strap.

Garden Party

Garden Party totes appear in leather and canvas combinations. Handles, side press studs, base corners, interior marks, structure and size can materially affect saleability and price.

Hermès Birkin retail prices (RRP): European price history

Retail prices (RRP) describe the cost of buying new. Use this history as context when comparing a pre-owned Birkin by size, leather, condition and inclusions, rather than as a resale valuation or seller payout.

The chart compares reported European boutique prices for Togo Birkin 25 and 30 from 2019 to 2026. Original prices are in euros. Approximate AUD amounts use the fixed exchange rate shown in the details and are not Australian boutique RRPs.

Hermès Picotin 18 or 22: which size suits me?

The Picotin Lock 18 is the more compact choice; the 22 has a wider base and greater depth. Compare the bag’s measurements with your everyday essentials before choosing.

ModelApproximate width × height × depth
Picotin Lock 1818 × 19 × 13 cm
Picotin Lock 2222 × 21 × 17 cm

These approximate measurements apply to the Clemence leather versions shown above. Handmade dimensions can vary, so check the measurements and photographs of the individual bag you are considering.

Both styles are designed for hand carry. Check the opening, handle drop, condition and supplied lock and keys. External measurements alone do not guarantee that your phone, wallet or organiser will fit.

Compare the Exact Bag

Birkin vs Kelly: a practical resale comparison

Neither model guarantees a higher resale result. Compare size, construction, leather, colour, hardware, condition and the accessories actually supplied, rather than relying on a broad model ranking.

Birkin details

Hermès describes the Birkin as a rectangular holdall. Identify the exact size and version, then show the handles, sides, base, corners and closures in the bag’s natural shape.

Kelly details

The Kelly has a trapezoidal design and comes in several formats, including Sellier and Retourne versions. Record the exact construction and any removable shoulder strap actually included.

Compare relevant evidence

Match recent sales by specification and condition. An asking price is not a completed sale or the amount a seller receives. Size and age alone do not determine value; neither an offer nor a sale is guaranteed.

Hermès Categories

Hermès pieces considered by Luxury Reborn

You may submit Hermès pieces across categories. Every item is reviewed individually for likely resale value and current buyer demand before a selling option is offered.

  • Submissions may include bags, wallets and small leather goods, scarves, jewellery, belts, shoes, accessories, home pieces and other genuine Hermès categories.
  • Submission is not automatic acceptance: condition, likely resale value, available market evidence and current Australian buyer demand are reviewed item by item.
  • Luxury Reborn may decline a genuine piece when demand or likely resale value would not support a practical selling outcome for the customer or the business.

Hermès Value Factors

How Hermès configuration, age and condition affect resale

Hermès comparisons are most useful when the model, size, construction, leather and colour are closely matched. Age alone does not determine value.

Model, size and construction

Birkin, Kelly, Constance, Picotin Lock, Evelyne and Garden Party serve different buyers. Compact sizes can attract stronger demand, while Sellier and Retourne construction should never be compared as if identical.

Leather and material pairing

Togo, Epsom, Clemence, Swift, Box calf, canvas and other materials hold shape and show wear differently. Colour and hardware are considered with the leather and model.

Hardware and working closures

Scratches, tarnish, protective stickers, turn-locks, press studs, zips and clasp operation affect presentation. Gold or palladium finish is assessed as part of the complete configuration.

Shape, handles and base

Handle lean, softening, slouching, piping wear, corners and base shape indicate use and storage. Era-appropriate softness can be acceptable, but should be described clearly.

Date stamp as context

For closely comparable ordinary examples, an older bag can quote below a newer one. Condition, specification, provenance and demand can materially change the result, and exceptional vintage pieces can be valuable exceptions.

Model-appropriate inclusions

Birkin and Kelly commonly use a lock, keys and clochette. A Picotin Lock has its own padlock set but generally not a Birkin-style clochette. List only the fittings actually supplied with that model.

Hermès Education

Hermès Date Stamp Guide for research only

Hermès date stamps can provide manufacturing context, but formats and locations change. Use the guide as a reference and assess the stamp with the complete item.

Era context

Stamp format can help place a piece within a broad period when it is consistent with the model and construction.

Read the Hermès date stamp guide →

Location varies

Stamp position can differ by model, era and construction. A difficult-to-find or worn stamp is not a conclusion by itself.

Whole-piece review

Leather, stitching, edge finishing, hardware, proportions, markings, condition and provenance are considered together.

Hermès Guide FAQs

Hermès construction, age and inclusion questions

Which Hermès bags normally use a lock, keys and clochette?

Birkin and Kelly bags commonly have a padlock, keys and leather clochette when supplied as a complete set. Other models use different fittings. A Picotin Lock has a model-specific padlock set and generally does not have the same clochette arrangement.

How do Sellier and Retourne Kelly bags differ when describing condition?

Sellier construction has externally stitched edges and a firmer, more defined profile. Retourne construction has softer turned-in edges and may relax more with use. Shape and edge condition should be judged in the context of the correct construction.

Can an older Hermès bag still be considered if it is well preserved?

Yes. Older bags may quote below newer comparable examples, but age does not decide acceptance or value by itself. Condition, model, size, material, colour, rarity, provenance and current demand are considered together.

Which close photographs are useful for an Hermès bag assessment?

Include the complete exterior, side profile, base, corners, handles, sangles or closure, hardware, interior, date-stamp area where present and all supplied accessories. Photograph wear in neutral light without concealing it.

How should I describe the inclusions supplied with a Picotin Lock?

List the padlock and keys only if they are present, together with any dust bag, box and receipt. Do not describe a clochette unless the exact item genuinely includes one, and record these inclusions separately. Original unopened packaging is required for the New grade.
