Why does my Louis Vuitton canvas bag smell?
Some Louis Vuitton canvas bags have been reported to develop an unusual odour. In September 2023, Korea JoongAng Daily reported on internal training material describing a substance applied to soft canvas that could react to heat and humidity.
The reported production period was January 2017 to March 2021, with examples including Pochette Métis, Pochette Félicie, Marignan and Petit Sac Plat Monogram.
This does not establish that every Louis Vuitton bag from those years is affected, or that a particular scent is caused by factory glue. An odour alone cannot establish authenticity or explain an item’s condition.
