Does restoration prove that a designer bag is authentic?
No. A treatment or repair record does not by itself prove authenticity. The underlying bag, current components, construction and relevant details must still be assessed separately.
What should I do before arranging third-party restoration or replacing parts?
To reduce resale and authentication risk, preserve original materials and obtain an item-specific assessment before repainting, recolouring or replacing components where practical. Third-party work can change component originality or remove details needed for examination, but the work alone does not determine the underlying bag’s authenticity. Depending on the exact item, evidence and provider rules, an assessment may be qualified, inconclusive, unable to proceed or non-authentic; these outcomes are different, so preserve the provider’s exact wording. Disclose all material work and records. Luxury Reborn may revise or decline a selling option if the work falls outside our acceptance policy or we cannot reach a reliable authenticity conclusion.
How should a brand-authorised repair or replacement be described?
Brand-authorised work must still be disclosed. Where reliable records confirm that the brand supplied and fitted a replacement, it may be described as a genuine brand-service replacement, but it is not the component originally fitted when the bag was manufactured. The service record supports the repair history; it does not authenticate the whole bag, make it untouched or guarantee a condition grade, buyer demand or value.
Can restoration reduce a designer bag’s resale value?
Yes. See Resale Value and Buyer Demand above for Luxury Reborn’s complete value assessment rule. If no restoration has been carried out, restoration has no effect on the bag’s value, although condition and other market factors still do.
Why can authentication services reach different outcomes on a repaired bag?
Providers can differ in specialisation, scope, methods, evidence requirements and eligibility rules. A refusal or inability to assess an altered bag is not, by itself, a finding that it is counterfeit. Keep the exact wording of every result: one provider’s certificate or opinion applies to that service and bag and does not require another service, marketplace or buyer to agree.
Does CHANEL authenticate a bag after completing a repair?
CHANEL states that it offers repair services but does not offer authentication. A documented Chanel service record should be retained, but the bag still requires separate assessment of authenticity, current components, treatment history, condition and marketability.
Will Luxury Reborn accept every professionally restored bag?
No. Each bag is reviewed individually. The work may affect originality, condition, whether an authentication service can reach a reliable conclusion, buyer demand and value. We may offer a revised quote or no selling option after reviewing the exact bag and evidence.
What should I submit with a repaired or restored bag?
Provide the provider name, date, quotation, invoice or service record, the exact areas and known materials or components treated, before-and-after photographs where available, any limits stated by the provider and clear current photographs of the complete bag and treated areas.
Does this guide apply to watches, jewellery and every luxury item?
No. Accurate descriptions and repair records are broadly useful, but other categories have different component, service, safety, condition and authentication rules. This guide is specifically about designer handbags.
