Hermès Date Stamp Guide Australia
Hermès Date Stamp Checker & Year Guide
Learn how Hermès date stamps can help Australian buyers and sellers understand production-era context, why stamps are not proof of authenticity, and what else matters when assessing Hermès bags and accessories.
Hermès Stamp Details
Date stamps are context, not confirmation
Hermès date stamps may help place a piece within a production era. They should be reviewed alongside leather type, stitching, hardware, handles, shape, lining, blind stamps, wear and provenance where available.
A missing, worn or difficult-to-read stamp does not automatically decide authenticity or value. Some details require specialist assessment.
Photograph before you submit
For a Hermès quote or assessment, include close images of the date stamp where visible, blind stamps, hardware, sangles, handles, corners, feet, lock, clochette, keys, interior, stitching and all inclusions.

Read the complete marking, not one character
This is an educational overview only. A year letter is only one part of the blind stamp, and a plausible marking can be copied or placed on an item from the wrong era.
Terminology: the date or year mark is not a unique public serial number. Adjacent internal marks should not be presented as a customer-searchable record of a named artisan or exact workshop.
Free Hermès date stamp checker Australia
Check a Hermès blind stamp by letter and shape
Enter the date letter separately from adjacent artisan marks. Select the circle, square or lack of an enclosure you can actually see. A plain letter can refer to more than one year; if the shape is unclear, this Hermès date code lookup shows the possible references without choosing an era for you.
The checker uses the year chart below. It runs on this page without sending your entered stamp to a lookup service. It cannot retrieve brand records, identify an artisan or authenticate your bag.
Year Reference
Commonly reported Hermès year stamps
This is an independent specialist-reference chart, not an official Hermès record. Expand each era to view the reported year-to-letter references, then compare the result with the complete item. Do not guess the era when a surrounding shape is worn or unclear.
1945–1970 · Plain letters
Widely published references map plain A through Z sequentially across this period. Independent confirmation is more limited for the earliest years, so treat the sequence as historical guidance.

2015–2026 · Modern plain letters
Modern plain letters no longer follow alphabetical order. The latest entries are reported specialist references rather than an official Hermès publication.
- T (no surrounding shape) : 2015
- X (no surrounding shape) : 2016
- A (no surrounding shape) : 2017
- C (no surrounding shape) : 2018

- Z (no surrounding shape) : 2021
- U (no surrounding shape) : 2022
- B (no surrounding shape) : 2023
- W (no surrounding shape) : 2024
- K (no surrounding shape) : 2025
- G (no surrounding shape) : 2026
Ambiguous plain letters: a letter without a surrounding shape does not establish its era. Plain A is reported for both 1945 and 2017; plain R can refer to 1962 or the reported late-2014 transition. Read the complete marking with the item rather than choosing the newest year.
Reading this chart: the dates are approximate independent reference windows, not an official Hermès publication. G for 2026 remains a reported reference rather than a date independently confirmed here by Hermès or a primary auction record. No future letters are predicted. A letter or date match is not an authenticity result.
Where to Look
Common stamp locations by model
Placement changed over time and varies across models. Search gently under natural or side lighting, and do not bend, wet or mark the leather to expose a stamp.
Birkin and Kelly
Older examples commonly place the blind stamp behind or beneath a sangle. Many pieces from the modern plain-letter era place it along the left interior area. Exact position varies by year and model.
Constance
The mark is commonly reported around the upper edge of the internal divider visible after the flap is opened.
Picotin
Depending on production period, the mark may be on an interior leather section or near the closure strap. Use soft side lighting rather than altering the leather.
Bolide
Many examples place the mark behind the leather tab at the end of the zipper. Bolide 1923 and other variations can use a different interior position.
Other models
Evelyne, Garden Party, wallets and smaller leather goods can use straps, tabs, gussets or discreet interior leather areas. Location alone does not confirm authenticity.
Stamp locations vary: these are examples, not requirements for every piece. Placement can differ by model and production period. Check the complete item rather than treating one location as proof of authenticity.
Documented Variations
Transitions that do not fit the simplest chart
The reported JO variation and late-2014 plain R require individual interpretation. Neither a familiar mark nor a variation is an authenticity verdict.
Hermès models Australian buyers often research
Compare the size, materials, construction and condition of each item. Birkin, Kelly, Constance, Evelyne, Garden Party and Picotin bags have different details to inspect, as do wallets, belts and scarves.
- Birkin and Kelly: structure, size, leather, hardware, age and condition strongly affect desirability.
- Evelyne and Picotin: compare the colour and leather, and review wear to the base, corners and handles.
- Constance and wallets: hardware wear, shape retention and interior condition need close review.
- Belts and scarves: category-specific condition, material and presentation affect resale interest.
How Luxury Reborn Looks at Hermès
Assessment is item-specific
Leather and shape
Leather texture, structure, handles, corners, glazing and silhouette are reviewed against the model and era.
Stamps and hardware
Date stamps, blind stamps, lock, keys, feet, zipper pulls and hardware finish are assessed as part of the full item.
Condition and demand
Wear, colour, size, inclusions and Australian buyer demand affect consignment and direct-sale guidance.
Authentication limit: a stamp can be imitated. Its letter, shape, position and production-era reading must agree with the model, materials, colour, hardware, dimensions, stitching and construction.

Hermès Stamp FAQs
Before you rely on a stamp
How do I use the Hermès date stamp checker?
Enter only the year letter and choose the visible surrounding shape. The checker uses the same independent year chart shown on this page. Plain letters can repeat across eras; an unclear enclosure produces multiple possibilities rather than a definite year. It cannot authenticate your item.
Does a Hermès date stamp prove authenticity?
No. A date stamp can support assessment, but it does not prove authenticity by itself. Leather, stitching, blind stamps, hardware, workmanship, shape and overall item context also matter.
Where is the Hermès date stamp found?
Location depends on the model and era. Stamps can be found inside bags, on straps, under flaps or near interior leather areas, depending on the piece.
What does a Hermès date stamp show?
The year letter and its surrounding shape may suggest a production year. Adjacent letters, numbers or symbols can relate to internal artisan, workshop, material or special-order references. Interpretation should be treated as context only.
Is the Hermès year-stamp chart official?
No. This is an independent reference, not an official Hermès chart or a connection to brand records. The dates are reported specialist and secondary-market references, including observed modern stamps, and should not be treated as brand confirmation.
What if the shape or year letter is unclear?
Do not select an era by guessing. Plain letters were reused in different periods, and a worn circle or square may be difficult to see. Use clear photographs and a whole-item assessment; an unclear or unlisted marking does not by itself prove that an item is genuine or counterfeit.
Is the stamp year the same as the purchase year?
Not necessarily. A reported date-stamp year concerns production, not the date an item was sold. Compare receipts and provenance separately; later purchase does not automatically contradict an earlier production reference.
Can Luxury Reborn assess vintage Hermès?
Yes. Vintage Hermès pieces may be submitted and are assessed individually. Comparable older bags can sell below newer examples, while rare, discontinued, provenance-rich or highly collectible vintage pieces can be important exceptions.
What Hermès items can I sell in Australia through Luxury Reborn?
You may submit genuine Hermès pieces across categories, including bags, wallets and small leather goods, scarves, jewellery, belts, shoes, accessories and home pieces. Acceptance depends on condition, likely resale value and current buyer demand, so submission does not guarantee an offer.
Did microchips replace all Hermès date stamps in 2020?
Do not use a 2020 microchip cutoff to date or authenticate a Hermès bag. Current specialist guidance still discusses blind stamps and their limitations. This independent guide does not provide access to Hermès records or establish authenticity from an identifier alone.
Is an Hermès authenticity card the same as a care card or independent report?
No. Hermès does not issue authenticity cards. Care paperwork and an independent authentication report are different documents; neither should be described as verification by Hermès.
References and review notes
