Luxury Reborn Vintage Convention
When a Chanel bag is considered Vintage
Luxury Reborn generally classifies a Chanel bag as Vintage when available evidence indicates it was produced in a calendar year at least 20 years before the current calendar year. In 2026, this generally means 2006 or earlier. This is Luxury Reborn’s commercial age convention, not a legal definition or an official Chanel rule.
Chanel does not publish an official Vintage serial cutoff. The series ranges below are approximate third party reference windows. A serial sticker can add era context, but it does not establish age or authenticity by itself.
Series 9 and earlier

Clearly within the Vintage range
Series 10
Approximately 2005 to 2006

Review the exact item individually
Series 12
Approximately 2008 to 2009
Not currently within the Vintage range
Series 13 and later
Approximately 2009 onward
Not currently within the Vintage range
Bags produced before Chanel began using serial stickers in approximately 1986 may have no serial sticker by design. A missing or detached sticker proves neither age nor authenticity and does not by itself prevent an older bag from qualifying as Vintage.
Condition, quilting, corner wear, chain plating, leather feel, interior wear, serial sticker condition, restoration, odour and structure all affect how confidently an identifier can be interpreted.
When reviewing vintage Chanel, use clear photographs of the serial sticker or plaque where present, corners, hardware, chain, interior, quilting, back pocket and any restoration or repair history.
Chanel pieces that do not yet meet the 20 year rule may be described by their supported production era or as archive or earlier era pieces. They are not placed in the Vintage collection solely because they were produced before 2009.
